The office Christmas party is the single most popular casino booking of the year, and for good reason. It solves the problem every event organiser knows well: how to get a mixed group of people, across departments and seniority, to relax and mix without forcing it.
It levels the room. Casino tables do the work that a DJ and a free bar cannot. They give people a shared activity that crosses team lines. The graduate intake and the board end up at the same blackjack table, and the competition is the leveller. It scales cleanly from a 30-person team do to a 500-guest company-wide party, and because the chips are fun money rather than cash, it raises none of the duty-of-care or inclusivity concerns that some festive entertainment does.
